I recommend setting your site up on wordpress.org from the beginning so that you have full control and flexibility over your asset. HIGH QUALITY HD WEBCAM

This camera is a great option for beginners to are looking to record quality videos or virtual summit sessions. It records in HD quality so that you can produce professional looking videos easily. It’s easy to plug into your computer and set up and is an affordable option, even if you’re at the beginning stages of your business. This is what I used when I started online and still rely on from time to time when I don’t have access to the professional live streaming studio in my home office.

AFFORDABLE VIDEO HOSTING

This is a video hosting website that allows you to upload and share videos so that you don’t need to host them on your own website, which can slow your website down. If you are making videos that you will sell access to (like your summit sessions!) vimeo makes it easy to restrict access to the video so that they can only be viewed on your website. It’s the best value plan that I’ve found with this functionality to date.

WEBSITE ANALYTICS

No matter what type of website you have, you’re going to want to know who is visiting your site, where they’re coming from and what pages they’re looking at most. Google Analytics is a fantastic free tool that allows you to see all of these stats so that you can keep track of your growth and keep moving forward.

FILE ORGANIZATION & TEAM SHARING

This cloud-based storage service allows you to keep all of your files safe and accessible from whatever device you are using. Having a good filing system in place will save you tons of time and help to minimize stress when starting your business. I use Dropbox to host view-only files that I want to easily share with my audience by giving them a link. It’s free to get started and there are affordable plans if you need more space as you grow.

Google Suite is a collection of useful cloud-based apps to help with computing, productivity and collaboration in your business. You can create files for your content and easily share and comment on them with your team as you work on projects together to get things done. This is the workplace where the vast majority of my ideas become a reality.

PASSWORD SECURITY

This is a password manager and generator that is incredibly useful for simplifying workflows and improving security of your business. It allows you to use one master password for all of your major accounts so that you don’t have to remember different passwords for each tool you use. Even more important, you can share access to your accounts with members on your team without needing to give them your actual password to log in.

EASY IMAGE CREATION FOR YOU & YOUR TEAM

Once you’ve got your business up and running, it’s time to make it look good. Luckily, Canva makes it easy to create great looking images and graphics, without needing a professional designer. It’s extremely easy to use and you can do a lot with the free version to get started creating social media images, cover photos, video thumbnails or whatever else you need.

As you start creating visual content for your business, you’ll soon find that you need access to high quality photos that you are able to use. Unsplash is a website that allows you to download photos for use in your business for free.

GRAPHIC DESIGN ON A BUDGET

Right from the get go you’ll need a couple of design basics like a logo. This can be a daunting and expensive task for someone starting out but 99Designs is a service to help you get affordable design solutions when you need them. You submit what you need and get a ton of proposal back from different designer on the site and can choose which one you’d like to work with.

SOCIAL MEDIA SCHEDULING

This social media scheduling tool is my favorite one for it’s simplicity. It makes it incredibly easy to schedule updates to all of your social media profiles including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedInand Google+. This video editing software is very powerful and makes it easy to record videos of your computer screen, which I rely on to create tutorials for courses and when training members of my team. You can also set it up to use the in-built webcam and audio on your laptop or connect it to an external camera and microphone to record yourself. This is my top recommendation for anyone using a Mac computer to create their videos.

SCREEN CAPTURE FOR PC

This video editor and screen recorder is a good alternative for PC users. It’s very easy to set up and start recording your screen or editing videos. This is a great option if you want to add intros and outros to your summit session videos as well.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

As you move forward with your business, you’ll soon find that you have a lot of data to keep track of: testimonials, enrollments, projects, to do lists. Airtable is the go-to project management tool for my team - it’s like a flexible spreadsheet that you can easily sort by whatever you want. You can assign tasks, complete them, and view everything in various ways (blocks, calendar view etc.) It’s a game-changer for keeping things organized and getting more done. And the best part, the free plan is enough to do most things that you’ll need.

This transcription service is a quick and easy way to get transcripts written from your audio content like summit sessions, podcast episodes or videos. It’s great value for money and is super simple to do - just upload your file and get the written transcript sent back to you. Live streaming is such a powerful way to connect and engage with your audience and you can use it in so many ways. I personally do live streams using this gear during product launches and virtual summits, as well as to provide extra value to my students with Q&A sessions and advanced trainings throughout the year. I’ve spent a lot of time perfecting my setup and getting the best gear that works well together. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth it if you are ready to go all in with live streaming.
